I've eaten my 8th Advent chocolate from my Malteasers Advent calendar, the Christmas tree is up, "Top 10 Christmas Turkeys" is on MTV Classic, and I am sitting in my room surrounded by Christmas presents that need to be wrapped - could this be a more perfect time to write a festive-filled Christmassy blog post?!
In case you haven't guessed... I'm a Christmas freak. Yes. Freak. I know that's quite a strong word, but I definitely am one!!! I blame it on my parents. When I was growing up and right up until I stopped believing in Santa (I think I was around 7), my parents really did make Christmas "the most wonderful time of the year". My dad always used to travel a lot with work, so for him not to be there on Christmas Eve was no biggy. Turns out that he wasn't actually travelling on Christmas Eve, it was HIM who would dress up as Santa and come deliver presents to us!! It was the most incredible thing EVER.
Every Christmas Eve it would be our family (the WHOLE family... aunties, uncles, grandparents... the lot) and my best friend Natalie and her family (she's my oldest friend who I've known since I can remember!). I'm just gonna pause for a sec and tell you that some random "Macarena" Christmas mix has just come on MTV Classic... what the hell!?!?!? Anyway.... Natalie and I would always go and wait by the front door after being told by our mums that they just had a call from Santa who had said that he was near the house, and for us to go and wait to let him in... so we did! We would wait there for a few minutes when we would hear the doorbell go... and there he was.... Santa Claus!! He would give Natalie and I a big hug and give a big "Ho Ho Ho!!". We then followed him into the conservatory, where our Christmas Tree was/is every year, and he would empty out his sack full of presents for all of us. He would stay for about 15 minutes, this was totally understandable at the time, after all, he did have to get ALL THE WAY AROUND THE WORLD! Anyway, my dad did an amazing job at being Santa, and it wasn't until my brother decided he would take over one year and do the job - but that failed... and I recognised it was him. So if your reading this, thanks Kareem for ruining it. Hahaha. Anyway, the point I am making from this little Santa Claus story, is that if my parents hadn't of made such an amazing effort to make Christmas so special for me throughout my childhood, I probably wouldn't be this Christmas-obsessed nutter today! My friend Natalie who experienced this with me is the ONLY other person I know who loves Christmas JUST as much as me.
Here are some of the things that I love most about Christmas:
Spending lots of time with my family (both my brothers have moved out and my dad works A LOT, so it's not often that all 5 of us get to spend lots of time together, so I really appreciate it when we do!). Decorating the Christmas tree, and just Christmassy decorations in general - I love helping my mum make the house look nice and Festive! Presents!! Not just receiving presents (of course I do love this, not going to beat around the bush!), but also buying presents... I always try to make a huge effort to get my family, friends, and boyfriend, things that they will really love, so I definitely enjoy buying these gifts. Christmas dinner ... my mum makes THE BEST Christmas dinner, EVER. A big Turkey, crispy roast totties, stuffing, pigs in blankets....... mmmm my mouth is watering just thinking about it! London - I LOVE London at Christmas... all of the beautiful lights, particularly on Oxford Street, but London in general looks amazing throughout the festive season. Hot Chocolates from Starbucks (in their cute little Christmassy cups). Christmas songs! When it gets to around October I am already getting excited about listening to Christmas songs, but I always make myself wait until at least the end of November before I bust them out! Tra la la la la............. :)Snow...(when we actually get it!) Hmmm what else do I love.... oh yes, Mince Pies and general Christmas treats e.g LOTS OF CHOCOLATE. Drinking lots of red wine.... ahh there is just so much I love about the festive season I could go on forever!! But I won't..
I'm going to Winter Wonderland this week for the first time ever... I've never been before which is mad considering my extreme love for the festive period! I'll write another post after I have been with lots of pictures and will tell you what it's like...
